Upgrade / Update PS3 Firmware via Storage Device
There might be a situation that you cannot connect to Internet using your console. Then, you have an option to update PS3 firmware using a storage device provided you have the update .PUB file on that storage device.
So to start with, download the appropriate update file on to your computer.
Download: US firmware v3.60 Download: EU firmware v3.60
Now, create a folder named as PS3 on the storage device. And while doing so, make sure that you keep the letters capital. Now, inside PS3 folder, create another folder named as UPDATE and again make sure that you keep the letters capital.
Now you need to copy the downloaded update file into the UPDATE folder and see that it is named as PS3UPDAT.PUP. Once done, connect that storage device to your PS3 console and navigate it as:
Settings > System Settings > System Update > Update via Storage Media
Now the console will use the .PUB file and will update the PS3 firmware. Once it is done, it will automatically reboot your PS3 console.
