I like compiling the best apps post. One of my good friend is a regular trekker and he asked me to share a list of best hiking apps. So, I chose to start with best trekking apps for iPhone 4S / iPad 2.
Basically what sort of apps could one need while trekking? I have done trekking a couple of times, so one would need maps, compass, flash light, and may be signal amplifier too. Please pardon if you do think that any of the below app is not worthy to be in the list as is purely based on trekking experience.
Best Trekking Apps For iPhone 4S / iPad 2
A phone with better battery is what you could wish for while you are going for trekking or hiking. There are number of features offered by this app (which I am finding trouble to explain), which would increase its battery life. You can do some review reading and check this app out.
When you trek it is pretty obvious that you would carry torch lights. But there could be situation when you would need a secondary source of light. That is when, this app could literally save your life.
MapMyHike
As the name suggests, this app is meant to record your hiking activities. Once you create yourself a account with MapMyHike, you are good to use it. This account is integrated with Twitter and Facebook. It does the real time tracking of parameters like time, distance, pace, location, speed and elevation.
Trails
Trails can be labelled as a huge repository from where you can access more than 48,000 trail guides and covers over 24 outdoor activities. It also offers you with features like GPS, updated weather conditions, location & altitude details, sunset / sunrise time, virtual compass. Apart from that, you can use this app to find new locations to hike, trek, bike around you. A swiss-knife for trekkers!
Walkmeter
As a trekker, one would always want to know the distance he traveled and other figures like elevation and locations. These numbers actually keep a trekker going. Walkmeter is a very well designed trekking app for iPhone 4S / iPad 2. Apart from records like your time, location, distance, elevation, and speed, this app also lets you Walkmeter, Runmeter, and Cyclemeter.
