MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro – Which Is Better ?

MacBook family has always been the on the higher end of laptop market. So obviously when you are investing huge amount on your laptop, you want it to be best in the market. With the arrival of new MacBook Air in the market, the people now has the chance to choose between MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

We would be comparing MacBook Air and MacBook Pro which would let you decide the one for you. This has been a happening year for Apple. Launch of Mac OS X Lion, MacBook Air, iOS 5 and huge spike in their sales.

The first thing you look when you are buying any laptop or computer, is its processing power. MacBook Air comes in three models which are 1.6GHz, 1.7GHz or 1.8GHz model and MacBook Pro comes in 2.3GHz or 2.7GHz models. And all these are dual core processors.

The 15 inch and 17 inch models of MacBook Pro feature quad core 2GHz, 2.2GHz or 2.3GHz processors and its Hyper Threaded technology gives it 8 virtual processors.

Display Screen

The 11 inch MacBook Air has a picture resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels where as the 13 inch MacBook Air has picture resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels which is similar to the 15 inch MacBook Pro. And the 13 inch MacBook Pro features a display screen of 1280 x 800 pixels. And the 17 inch MacBook Pro features a 1920 x 1200 screen.


New MacBook Air features Intel HD Graphics 3000 support. And this same graphic card powers MacBook Pro too. And if you want to go with 15 inch and 17 inch models of MacBook Pro, then it would come with 1 GB of video memory.


The latest MacBook Air runs on 1333MHz DDR3 RAM and its 11 inch model features 2 GB RAM. But if you want, Air would feature RAMs as powerful as the ones in PRO of 4GB. Air is capable of getting extended to 4GB where Pro can be extended to 8GB.

And coming to its storage memory, 11 inch Air offers 64GB of space which can be upgraded to 128GB too. And the 13 inch model comes with 128GB and 256GB of storage.

Whereas the 13 inch Pro features 320GB of storage space where as the 17 inch model offers 750 GB of storage.

Battery Life

This is something any Mac is known for, monster battery life. New Air offers you with a battery life of 5 hours, where are the Pro models have a battery life of 7 hours. But the battery life truly depends on the kind of work you do on your Mac. Playing games or watching movies wont let the battery last for that long.


This is one of the most important factor behind any buying decision. MacBook Air models are cheaper compared to MacBook Pro models. The Air starts from £849 for its 11 inch model with 64GB where as the one with 128GB would cost you  £999. And the 13 inch Air with 128GB would cost you £1,099 whereas its 256GB would cost you £1,349.

13 inch 2.3 GHz MacBook Pro has a price tag of  £999 and its 2.7GHz model would cost  £1,299. The 2 GHz and 2.2 GHz models of 15 inch Pro would costt £1,549 and £1,849 respectively. And the 17 inch MacBook Pro has a price tag of £2,099.
